On this tour you can have an impressive view of the Avenue of Volcanoes. Pasochoa is an extinct volcano located in the Guayllabamba river basin in the Ecuadorean Andes. The current mountain form is a collapsed crater with a semicircular shape. This structure emerged approximately 100 thousand years ago due to an eruption which destroyed the crater and occidental slope of the previous volcanic cone. Lava and ash increased the fertility of the ground in the Pasochoa region, encouraging the growth of a vibrant forest ecosystem.

We will go through the General Rumiñahui Highway to the town of El Ejido in Amaguaña. There we will take a detour through hacienda Medrano to the community of Pilopata de Monjas; then we will advance until the refugee camp (for about 6 km). There our tour can take two paths: 1) a 30 minute easy walk called “The Hummingbird Path” where we can see hummingbirds, plants and volcanic rocks or 2) for the more adventurous we can reach the summit after a 3 to 4 hour trek (the descend will take around 1.5 hours) where you will be rewarded by a magnificent view, pure air and new energy. This is one of the best trekking expeditions in Ecuador for acclimatization of 5000 + summits.
