Description
MAIN INFO
The diversity of this ecosystem is such that Pasochoa is recorded to have 125 species of birds and 232 of plants. On this tour you can have an impressive view of the Avenue of Volcanoes. Pasochoa is an extinct volcano located in the Guayllabamba river basin in the Ecuadorean Andes. The current mountain form is a collapsed crater with a semicircular shape. This structure emerged approximately 100 thousand years ago due to an eruption which destroyed the crater and occidental slope of the previous volcanic cone. Lava and ash increased the fertility of the ground in the Pasochoa region, encouraging the growth of a vibrant forest ecosystem.

ATTRACTIONS
BIRDING AT PASOCHOA
The prolific bird life is one of the major attractions in Pasochoa. More than 100 species of birds have been recorded. Among them there is the endangered Andean condor, which can be seen flying above the Pasochoa peaks. Sixteen species of hummingbirds can be found in Pasochoa; one of them is the sword-billed hummingbird, probably one of the most spectacular hummingbirds, due to its very long beak, specialized in feeding in passion flowers and guantos.
Among the poultry you can find the huirac-churos with its peculiar singing and hummingbirds that are of great ecological importance. Also there are blackbirds, nursery birds, nuns, tangaras, plateros, turtledoves and wild turkey hens.
