Overview
This is a spectacular day trip out of Quito to the volcano Antisana, the fourth in altitude in Ecuador, covered with glaciers and snow, and the surrounding Ecological Reserve. High Paramos around the Reserve’s base are relatively undisturbed and support a good number of Andeans Condors
Depart early from Quito towards Volcano Antisana in the eastern mountain range where up to 90 different bird species have been registered ranging from the world’s largest bird; the condor to the smallest, a hummingbird. Enjoy lunch at a local hacienda or box lunch and then be prepared to look also for Black-faced Ibis, Carunculated Caracara, Andean Lapwings, Variable Hawk, the Black-chested Buzzard Eagle, the tiny Ecuadorian Hillstar and Andean Gulls.
