Mindo Trek
OVERVIEW
Mindo, a small town surrounded by a lush cloud forest climbing the western slopes of Pichincha, is the main access for the 19500-ha Bosque Protector Mindo-Nambillo. The reserve, which ranges in altitude from 1400 to 4780 m, features beautiful flora, fauna and spectacular cloud forest and waterfalls.
Early start northwest of Quito, in the way to Tandayapa, you will visit Bellavista Cloud Forest Reserve & Lodge- and secondary cloud forest trails, which ranges in altitude 500 to 1500 mts with foot paths full of a great variety of flora and fauna, walking along 7 or 2 kms of primary forest, admiring many species of orchids, bromeliads, ferns, palm trees, medicinal plants, butterflies, many species of birds (42 species of hummingbirds listed in this reserve). Drive to the town of Mindo, optional visits to the Orchid and Butterflies Center.
