Cotopaxi National Park Tour

South of the city of Quito, lays the inter-Andean region of the Andes Mountain Range. Described as The Avenue of the Volcanoes by the famous naturalist and German explorer Alexander Von Humboldt, it holds some of the most impressive extinct and active volcanoes in the world.

Cotopaxi (5897 mts.-19347 ft.) considered to be the highest active volcano in the world welcomes you and will give you a flavor of the cultural and natural wonders of the New World.

Cotopaxi is the second most popular adventure destination in Ecuador as it is full of nature which will leave you with an uplifting experience. It has one of the few equatorial glaciers in the world, which starts at the height of 5,000 meters (16,400 ft) and from its summit, if the climatic conditions are favorable, you can view almost all the peaks in the country. The volcano is the subject of 1855 and 1862 paintings by Frederic Edwin Church, a famous American landscape painter.

Cotopaxi National Park was created in 1975 as a protected area for the volcanoes and lakes within it. This park also has an important collection of lakes and mountain peaks. Among the most outstanding of these are: Limpiopungo Lake, which reflects in its waters the majestic Rumiñahui (4,757 mts.-15607 ft.); Santo Domingo Lake, surrounded by walls of Incan stone, ruins of pucarás (Incan forts) and other stone platforms which are thought to have been built by Pre-Colombian shepherds.
