Overview
Sachatamia Lodge is a wonderful privately-owned ecological reserve only 1½ hours from Quito and covers 120 ha. of mountain cloud forest at an altitude of 1700 m. Sachatamia has the privilege of being located next to the protected forests of Mindo and therefore offers a unique diversity of flora and fauna.
Early departure to take the old Nono-Mindo road, a well-known birding road that descends the west slope of the Andes from Quito that leads to the rich Montane and Cloud Forests. These are the habitat of the Black-and-chestnut Eagle, Dark-backedWood-Quail, Purplebibbed Witetip, Gorgeted Sunangel, Giant Antpitta,Tanager Finch,Andean Cock-of-the-rock, Toucan Barbet, and the Plate-billed Mountain-Toucan. Road birding with a snack and box lunch. Mid afternoon arrival to Sachatamia Lodge, a cozy, rustic refuge in union with the natural environment, located within the ecological reserve of the same name.
On day two, after an early breakfast, drive to the Valley of Mindo, with road birdwatching and after a snack, return to Quito.
